Apparently the proper application of Statistics is “disinformation”, or some such bullshit
We all know the old saw about “lies, damn lies, and statistics“, but it’s undeniable that statistics are a legitimate mathematical science that can provide us with extremely useful and helpful information.
Statistics can also be used to demonstrate some inconvenient truths and as such the uttering of such are thusly at times classified as speechcrimes. This is precisely what happened when Johns Hopkins University published an article on the 22nd of November presenting a critical, statistical analysis of “the effect of COVID-19 on U.S. deaths using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)”. The article was based on a webinar given by Genevieve Briand, assistant program director of the Applied Economics master’s degree program at Hopkins and was a more-or-less pure statistical analysis.
The article was, of course, pulled almost immediately after it hit the streets.
To answer that, why don’t we look at some of the conclusions…
Surprisingly, the deaths of older people stayed the same before and after COVID-19. Since COVID-19 mainly affects the elderly, experts expected an increase in the percentage of deaths in older age groups. However, this increase is not seen from the CDC data. In fact, the percentages of deaths among all age groups remain relatively the same.
Or how about this…
These data analyses suggest that in contrast to most people’s assumptions, the number of deaths by COVID-19 is not alarming. In fact, it has relatively no effect on deaths in the United States.
And maybe this…
This trend is completely contrary to the pattern observed in all previous years. Interestingly, as depicted in the table below, the total decrease in deaths by other causes almost exactly equals the increase in deaths by COVID-19. This suggests, according to Briand, that the COVID-19 death toll is misleading. Briand believes that deaths due to heart diseases, respiratory diseases, influenza and pneumonia may instead be recategorized as being due to COVID-19.
But really, I think it was because of this little gem (emphasis mine)…
The CDC classified all deaths that are related to COVID-19 simply as COVID-19 deaths. Even patients dying from other underlying diseases but are infected with COVID-19 count as COVID-19 deaths. This is likely the main explanation as to why COVID-19 deaths drastically increased while deaths by all other diseases experienced a significant decrease.
You can almost hear “BURN THE WITCH!!!” emanating from CDC headquarters, but there – right. fucking. there. – is the simple truth of the KungFlu scamdemic.
Now, Professor Briand notes that literally anyone can utilize the same data she used (publicly available from the CDC) to replicate her analysis. From what I’ve been able to see nobody has done so – and thus nobody has been able to identify any flaws in Professor Briand’s analysis.
Her work was accurate, as was the reporting by Yanni Gu of JHU.
Accuracy wasn’t the problem.
It blew the lid off the KungFlu #scamdemic and we simply cannot have that in The Land Of The Free in
2020 Year Zero.
